At Monday’s meeting, Spartanburg City Council gave final approval to two rezoning requests. 700 Wofford Street was originally designated B-1 (Neighborhood Shopping District) and will now be designated R-8 (General Residential District) to allow for the construction of new Habitat for Humanity Homes. 778 South Church Street was rezoned from B-1 to B-3 (General Business District ) to allow an automated car wash service to be constructed.
Council also received it’s annual comprehensive annual financial report from accountant Kevin Madden of Greene, Finley and Horton. The city received an “unqualified opinion,” the best a government agency can receive.
Also at Monday’s meeting, council approved a measure to take over the Red, White and Boom event from Spartanburg Community College. The city already allocated $8,500 in Hospitality Tax funds for the event. Council voted unanimously to allocate as much as $10,000 additional dollars to the event.
