The original Spark logo. Gone, but not forgotten. Still, Stephen Long's new logo really does class the place up in ways this one never did, don't you think?

As many of you will have noticed, SpartanburgSpark.com has a spiffy new logo created by local artist/designer/mastermind Stephen Long. What’s awesome about this is that he decided to create this entirely on his own initiative, just because he thought it would be a good addition to the site. And boy, was he right.

This is the fourth logo we’ve had since the site went online in August of last year, and there are two things I really like about it. The first is that it’s much more professional and modern looking than any of the previous logos we’ve had. It really does look like a logo you can take seriously, rather than one you can just pat nicely on the head to show it you appreciate it’s feeble, if sincere, efforts.

The second thing I like about it is that it hearkens back to the original Spark logo — the one I have on my CafePress coffee cup — and it feels almost like a tribute to or remix of the original design concept. It’s like Long found the parts that worked in the design, kept them, and then tossed out all the rubbish stuff, adding good ideas in to replace them.

But that’s just my take. Feel free to give your feedback on the new logo below.
