Even though it’s not technically the weekend, many of us are already off of work thanks to the Christmas holiday. It’s a special time of year, even if the whole religious thing doesn’t interest you, because other people’s belief nets you a few needed days off. Everyone wins.

Of course, it does come at a price. In exchange for time off, you’re sort of compelled to spend time with family, which can be far more stressful than anything you’d run into at your job. And then there are the pressures of buying last-minute gifts, cooking things, cleaning things, wrapping things, finding appropriate things to watch on TV and all manner of other holiday must-dos.

And now that we’re all in the home stretch, with pretty much everything needing to get done by tonight, or else it doesn’t count. And then there’s the Christmas day stuff, and the weekend of recovery, something you may or may not have depending on your guest situation. It can be quite daunting.

So here’s a place to vent. It’s time to talk about your very special holiday and weekend plans.

As some of you may know, my wife and I basically opted out of the traditional Christmas thing this year. It’s been a hectic year, so we’ve opted to make the holiday into a kind of second honeymoon. We’ve been at the beach since last Saturday, and our biggest holiday worry thus far has been deciding what we’re going to have for Christmas dinner. (We’re leaning towards Christmas tacos as the moment.)

So, our weekend plans will probably be comically out of synch with yours. That’s OK. Let us know what we’re missing out on by opting out this year.

Thursday: There’s supposed to be some kind of storm on the beach tonight, so we’ll probably crack a few beers and watch it. If the cable is still working, we’ll probably watch one of the marathon of Christmas movies.

Friday: We brought some gift-stuffed stockings from my mom with us, but other than that Christmas morning will mostly be about making pancakes and eating them. Friday evening, we’ll probably look for shells (if it’s not still raining) and generally clean up the beach house.

Saturday: More cleanup as we check out at 10 a.m. Then, we start the trek back to Spartanburg. Nothing really planned for that night, which we may need just to get settled again.

Sunday: Recovery. That’s always the way it is with vacations, isn’t it? Even if all you did was relax, you need like a full day to get back into the groove. Maybe we’ll take a look at some of the photos we took of our dog splashing around in the ocean, but I doubt we’ll do much anyone would characterize as productive.

That’s it from me. I know, we’ve set the bar very low. Some of you will be running the holiday gauntlet, meanwhile we’ll be trying to figure out to watch on TV and eating cookies and having very few compelling reasons to leave the bed. Here is your chance to show us up!

Let’s hear about your hectic, frenetic, impossible, furious holiday plans!
