Listening Party: Regional Holiday Music Bonanza
Rules are made to be broken, particularly when it comes to the holidays. Sure, you know that everyone agreed to cap off their gifts at $20 this year because of the economy, but — gosh darn it — your mom would really like that MacGyver box set on DVD, and it’s only $35 bucks, so … My point is that sometimes it’s OK to bend the rules a little, as long as you’re doing it for the right reasons. Like the rule that says that Listening Party has to be about music that begins and ends in Spartanburg. This week, I’m posting videos of local and regional Christmas music, and I’m not even going to be reviewing it, but rather just sharing it.
Let’s start off local, shall we? Here’s the Kerr Christmas Recital at Case Brothers in Spartanburg, recorded just a few days ago.
The next one comes from neighboring Greenville. Here’s Robby The Elf sharing the magic of Christmas. The song is called “Magic From Elves.”
Next, we have a little ditty by Asheville, NC, based duo The Mad Tea Party, who are regular performers at the HUB-BUB showroom. They’re recorded a rollicking anti-Christmas song for those of us who don’t actually like the whole holiday thing. If you’ve got the Christmas blues, this song is for you. And, as you’d probably expect from a song called “Oh sh*t! It’s Christmastime!” it’s not work safe due to language.
And to bring it all back home, here’s Bryan “chAng” Teague’s “Drinkin & Dreamin on X-mas,” a song we’ve already showcased. But we’re breaking rules like crazy today, so why stop now?
Since I’m breaking the rules, so can you! Instead of being limited to discussing local holiday music in the comments below, feel free to talk about holiday music in general. Feel free to link to your favorite holiday tunes, no matter where they’re from!

A friend of mine, Kevin Centlivre, made this little holiday diddy here. He’s from Florida, which I guess is regional. It’s called Christmas Suicide, and it’s sure to get you in the mood.

The Pity Party (a band from Los Angeles) wrote this song in the spirit of Anti-Christmas. Enjoy! http://www.thepityparty.net/ChrisMyAss.mp3
