The Christmas season may be a busy one for shoppers but it is also a very busy one for those performing under the lights as well. There are four major productions in Spartanburg in the next few weeks all with a holiday theme.
The first is the Spartanburg Youth Theater’s production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. This comedy is about a couple who find themselves having to cast the “awful” Herdman children into the church Christmas pageant and the mayhem that ensues. Show dates are December 4-5 At the David Reid Theater on the Chapman Cultural Center Campus. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is for all audiences and one can preview the kid friendly playbill at the CCC website.
The second production is The Santaland Diaries. This one man production is presented by The Spartanburg Little Theater and will be shown at The Hub Bub in downtown Spartanburg December 10-12 at 8 pm nightly. This play was sold out last year and is sure to be a must see again this year. It is for mature audiences only.
The third production is the holiday classic The Nutcracker. Tchaikovsky’s beautiful score is brought to life by Ballet Spartanburg with over 100 dancers including guest artist Joseph Phillips from American Ballet Theater and Ana Sofia Scheller from New York City Ballet. This beloved ballet will be performed at Twitchell Auditorium at the Converse College Campus. Show dates are December 11-13.
The last is a Christmas concert performed by The Spartanburg Community Band. This band, established in 1996 is made up of local musicians in our community. Their concert will be on December 15 at 7 P.M. at the David Reid Theater on the Chapman Cultural Center Campus.
