While it can be heartbreaking for someone to lose their home because of things like not being able to pay the taxes, it’s not always without a silver lining. For those looking for good deals on properties in need of a little TLC, this can take the form a tax sale. Spartanburg County’s tax sale happens on Monday, and to their credit, the Spartanburg Herald-Journal has gone above and beyond here, creating a searchable database of the listings.

The Delinquent Tax Sale for the County of Spartanburg will be held in the County Council Chambers of Spartanburg South Carolina on Nov. 2, 2009, beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing on Nov. 3, 2009 at 9 a.m.

In order to bid at the tax sale, individuals must be registered by the Office of Tax Collector by Oct. 30, 2009, at 5 p.m.. (Forms can be found at www.spartanburgcounty.org)

Defaulting taxpayers listed in this advertisement must pay taxes by 5 PM on Friday, October 30, 2009, to avoid the property that is listed from being sold.

Here’s the searchable version of the list, and here’s the entire index in list form. In both cases, it looks like Spartanburg County provided very little information, so there’s some investigation involved if you actually want to see what’s available.

Just out of curiosity I looked. Seems like all it is are abandoned mobil homes.
    For example:

  2. They are all trailers. For the price listed, you get the trailer, not the land. So, unless you have land you want to put a trailer in bad shape on, and spend the money to move it, it doesn’t seem like it makes much sense.

There isn’t a number listed next to mobile home number. Wouldn’t that indicate it’s not a mobile home? Tower Homes have several listed, those aren’t mobile homes, correct? I know a whole neighborhood and land that is being sold because the taxes weren’t paid. (It was listed for sale in November although I don’t recall the date and by no means are the house mobile homes. There were once listed at @350,000.)
