The Hub City Co-op appears to be moving forward.

While it has been common knowledge that the Hub City Co-op was looking at the space next to Brasserie Ecosse as their potential home — in fact, the Spark reported this in June — we’ve all been collectively waiting for some kind of confirmation since then.

Today we have it. The Spartanburg Herald-Journal‘s Dudley Brown revealed that the deal appears to be moving forward …

Plans are under way for another tenant to move into the Hub-Bub Building downtown.

The Hub City Cooperative plans to open next to Brasserie Ecosse in the spring of 2010.

… The co-op will be in a 7,000-square-foot space that’s been vacant since the building was renovated three years ago. The building, which is the former Gilbert Shoe Co., will be completely occupied once the co-op opens.

Of course, Brown doesn’t actually say that a lease has been signed or anything — the real acid test for any business — just that there are plans, and that the building owners support them. So, it’s not clear if this is news, or just a confirmation of what people who have been following the co-op already know.

Still, it’s good for the Hub City Co-op to get a little more ink, particularly now that the toughest part — the fundraising and the initial organizing — is about to start in earnest.
