Over at Seeding Spartanburg, Tammy Stokes is weighing the pros and cons of running for Mayor of Spartanburg now that Bill Barnet has decided not to seek a third term. But transitioning from being a blogger to a political candidate presents some unique challenges …
Craig at 4P Photoblog has been getting some very cool shots during his vacation up North.I’ve never known of someone interested in running for public office to have a blog full of their candid opinions. I’ve been asked, “do you think your blog will hurt you?†To that, all I can say is “probably†but to what extent…I don’t know. My blog is a part of me and when I started it I definitely didn’t think I’d be considering running for public office. Rarely, do folks wear their heart on their sleeves, talk honestly about how they feel about a variety of issues in a public forum and then say “oh, I might run for public office.†That’s pretty much political suicide in this day and age, but then there’s me.
Our last evening at Niagara Falls, we went back to the falls to watch the light show and the fireworks. The fireworks are launched from an old electrical power facility on the Canadian side that is built into the gorge. So, they are launched from below the area the spectators are gathered. The fireworks show wasn’t very long, and there was no music piped in to accompany them, but they were still quite beautiful and fun to watch.
Punk With A Palate gives us the lowdown on cooking with chicory. Or maybe not …
I bought some greens at the grocery store labeled chicory When I looked it up, I was confused because pictures of what I thought to be endive came up instead. I find this hard to believe, because I know these guys order and get boxes of clearly marked produce. Was some one trying to trick me? According to wikipedia what I actually bought was curly endive/frisee.
Blogger/vlogger Dani over at Midget On The Edge recently delved into the world of online craft-selling, starting up an Etsy.com page to showcase her wares …
I meet with friends every few weeks in a knitting group we created, and it really gets my yarn going. While attempting a new pattern that a friend passed out Friday, I learned that what I was about to make goes for anywhere between $30 and $70 on Etsy.
Ho-ly Crap.
Thus, I set up an Etsy seller page. My goal is to have at least 3 things posted by the end of the month. Currently, I have nothing finished, but I knitted half of a basic scarf just last night that I hope to finish and post and in the next few days. It’s only $.20 to post an item, and it stays posted for 4 months, I think it said. After I get a few things posted that I can knit quickly, I’m going to invest in some properly-sized circular needles and work on that $70 project. Woot!
The Conservatist is not at all happy about H.R. 45 (aka Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009), seeing it as a clear attack on the protections of the second amendment to the Constitution.
With all of this said, H.R. 45 appears to do more harm to the people of America than those that it protects. I get the impression that its goal is to create a generation who are opposed to the use of guns altogether.
If you were partial to the United Nations Gun Ban, this would be your bill!
And lastly, we have the latest from Spartanburg Parody Paper News Press, Hub City’s answer to The Onion …
Outraged parents and community members alike gathered outside the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium Sunday to protest what they thought to be a rancorous display of sin and debauchery after the Herald Journal and several other media outlets ran an ad promoting a “Cornhole” event for that day.
“How were we to know it’s just a sport.” commented Gene Dillard, who said he’d hoped to yell scripture versus at participants as they entered and left the building. “What else was I to think ‘cornholin’ meant?”
Joan Dillard, a 3rd grade teacher and active church member said, “I had made all sorts of delicious brownies and muffins to give to the sinners. I hoped to let them know that Jesus loves them, and they still have a chance at eternal happiness if they just repent their sinful ways and except Jesus Christ into their hearts as lord and savior. Then I found out it’s just some football tailgate party, horseshoe game, so I took my treats and went home. It was kinda disappointing.”
This is just a tiny fraction of the recent happenings in Spartanburg’s blogosphere.
