Fresh fruits and vegetables? Meh ... maybe I'll go. What's that? You have fresh coffee? I'm there!

Fresh fruits and vegetables? Meh ... maybe I'll go. What's that? You have fresh coffee? I'm there!

It’s Thursday, and once again it’s time for me to ask you wonderful readers about your plans for the weekend. They don’t need to be anything fancy, innovative, mind-blowingly fun or even particularly original. They just need to be your plans. As individuals, we can only know so much, but by pooling our ideas and plans, we can get a good idea of the myriad options Spartanburg is offering this weekend.

And, since it’s completely unfair to ask anyone else to go first, I’ll start.

Thursday: After putting in my time at Bob’s Pretty Good Bookstore (mostly doing data entry for his Amazon storefront, since I’m a much faster typist than Bob), I’m headed up to Asheville for the evening to schmooze with some people from one of my sideline gigs.

Friday: Oodles of freelance work. After that, I have no plans. The only concert that interests me very much is Malcolm Holcombe playing at the Nu-Way, but I’ve seen him play plenty of times over the years, so the only novelty would be seeing him play in a different venue. I’m open to other ideas. Any suggestions?

Saturday: It’s kind of become a ritual to go to the Hub City Farmers Market on Saturday morning, and now that Little River Roasting Company is selling coffee there, I’m almost certain to be there every week from now until the end of the season. Chances are that I’ll chill out at my house for the rest of the day — lots of local blogs to read, for one thing — but I’m mildly interested in checking out Milgram’s 27 at the Cellar Club, as I’ve never seen them live and generally like the venue.

Sunday: No plans other than checking out the local YouTube uploads for the week and posting Video-O-Rama. Which isn’t a bad thing. Maybe I’ll take a day trip out to one of the nearby towns I haven’t been to yet, just to check it out. I’ve never been to downtown Gaffney, for instance.

You see how easy that was? Why, my weekend is probably dead boring compared to yours! Here’s your chance to brag about how awesome of a time you’ll be having while I’m sitting on my porch thinking about the sociopolitical subthemes of mid-1980s comic books. (Or whatever it is I think about.)

All you have to do is leave a comment.

  1. Let’s see. Mine is the usual boring fare with a twist.

Today: continue to recover from a nasty respiratory infection, pick up trucker hubby, then work till 7.

Friday: hope that stupid infection has been kicked to the curb, work, and await arrival of son, his girlfriend and her little one

Saturday: work, and pray I can avoid on of my increasing number of inhalers. (asthma sucks)

Sunday: Go with nine other people, mostly family to Spruce Pine, NC to a family reunion/birthday party. My grandmother will be 95.

Tonight I will attend Music on Main in Spartanburg because friends of mine “Strictly Business” are playing and BLVD Music will have a booth set up.I work there and feel it is important I support my place of business and local music. After that I will travel down to The Showroom to see Eleni Mandell.

Friday night ……….. hmmmm ……… I may run down to see Malcolm Holcombe @ the Nuway.

Saturday I will spend the day with my Daughter and probably see the new Harry Potter movie @ some point!

Sunday I will be @ Sonny’s for Sunday Songwriter’s as usual! Come Join us!!!

  3. The only firm plans the girlfriend and I have this weekend is Bele Chere on Saturday. The Old 97′s are playing, and they’re one of the bands I’ve always wanted to see but have never gotten the chance to. Really looking forward to that. Friday and Sunday will probably be played by ear, not really sure what we’ll end up doing.

    • You’re braving Bele Chere? Having worked at the festival for the last six years — most of it from Thursday set-up to Sunday breakdown — it would take something really compelling to make me attend. Maybe if the Pixies were playing …

      • Yeah, we brave it every year actually. Normally, there’s at least one band I want to see there. I wouldn’t do it on consecutive days, and we’ll probably lay around the house on Sunday recovering from the aggravation of it all. Still…Old 97′s…so we’re there.

        • PJ says:

          hey Chris

I’ve never been but one of my favorite bands ‘Christabel and the jons’ are playing. Saturday actually happens to be my birthday and I have a jam session planned that day so I don’t think I’m going.

          Is it really crowded/hectic?
you should check them out of if you can. They play at noon.

Thursday: Work, clean out the garage and re-organize

Friday: I have been feeling a little guilty about not doing a good enough job of supporting Spartanburg establishments. Now that it looks like things are taking a turn for the better downtown, I am going to do my part. I think after work, even though I was not a huge fan of the place before, I will go in and have a beer or two at Wild Wing’s, maybe talk my wife into staying for dinner.

Saturday: Yardwork! I love being outside!

Sunday: No idea, but hopefully something active in the morning and something relaxing in the evening.

I do have to say though, some live music on Friday night at the Nu-Way sounds tempting. Thanks for the info.

First of all, I love that we begin our weekends on Thursday.

    So…

Thursday – either Music on Main or chillin’ on the couch…I do need to rest sometimes.

Friday – packing for my 3rd weekend in a row of camping

Saturday – joining a meetup.com group for tubing down the Lower Green River – except I will be in my kayak

Saturday night – camping along the Green River

Sunday – tagging along with someone from the Foothills Paddling Club to kayak the Upper Green River.

Steve – you will not be disappointed in M-27!!!! Jamison’s voice will blow you away, Todd’s bass riffs are super groovy and Rob beats those drums like nobody’s business. I hope you go and I’d love to hear what you think!!!

p.s. Is anyone planning on going to MoveOn.org’s training camp in Atlanta next weekend? http://www.moveon.org/camp/ I am registered but can’t go until Saturday….so we’ll see how that works out.

Having never been to Bele Chere- I was thinking of heading up there this weekend (probably Saturday) but maybe not? I love festivals of all kinds so I thought that it would be fun- what is the rundown of it? Does it just get really crowded? We had plans to go last year but unfortunately I went into labor earlier than expected so that threw our plans out the window.

Otherwise, planning on doing some geocaching around Saluda on Sunday and hoping not to see another copperhead like we saw last week.
