Orwell versus Bodybuilders ... how to choose?

Orwell versus Bodybuilders ... how to choose?

Every Thursday, I turn the tables on you. Instead of me giving you information, I ask that you tell me something instead. I ask you about your weekend plans: shows you’re going to, events you’re hoping to catch and so forth. It needn’t be anything complex, I’m just looking for a way to give the Spark‘s readers some ideas and inspiration for their own weekend options.

I’ll start: I plan on doing very little this weekend. This evening, I might try to catch Music On Main, since it’s free, but I can’t say that the Nightcrawlers’ promise of “old school R&B” really excites me very much. I like R&B a good deal, but I’m always skeptical of cover acts. Maybe I’ll catch a movie instead, if one strikes my fancy. Regardless, I’ll definitely get a bit further into the book I’m currently reading, A Collection of Essays by George Orwell. Of course, I’ll also be working on the Spark and a few freelance assignments this weekend. That’s pretty much it for me.

I am slightly tempted to go to the Carolina Supernatural Bodybuilding & Figure Championships at the Memorial Auditorium, largely because I’ve never been to one and am slightly curious about what goes on there, but odds are that I won’t bother. Plus, while I find the idea novel, I don’t find it likely to be $20 worth of novelty. If I got comp’d in or something, maybe I’d change my mind.

How about you? I don’t know how anyone could possibly have a more exciting weekend planned than the one I’ve just outlined. I mean, I may end up leaving the boundaries of my house for hours at a time.

Let’s hear what you’ll be up to.

I am planning on going with my husband to the Blue Ridge BBQ Festival in Tryon and spending the day up there. I can taste it now! Also Rock ‘n Roll Reunion is performing on Saturday afternoon (I think)–that’s Tom Crabtree and Jack Roper’s band…a great Spartanburg act.

I will leave a ticket for you if you promise to go and write it up.

    p.s.

No drinking before you go, only later when writing.

    Let me know soon.

My brother-in-law plays in Rock ‘n Roll Reunion (with Tom…Jack’s not in the band anymore). We should totatlly go see them. BBQ and cold beer always sounds good. That’s a great event, the Blue Ridge BBQ festival and always a lot of fun. Totally recommend.

Also, I need to weed the little garden space though and it’s going to be so hot and humid and mosquito-infested, I’m sure. But, tomato sandwiches with Duke’s mayo await in the pot at the end of the rainbow therefore, I must weed. :)

attempting to tune my drum set. Hopefully a band practice

  6. Camelmike: I can’t write when I’ve been drinking, so the only mind-altering substance I’d be on is coffee. I’ve sent you an e-mail, as I’m definitely interested in seeing what the deal is. My exposure to this culture begins and ends at the film “Stay Hungry.”
