Burn Fest is not negotiable.

Burn Fest is not negotiable.

Generally speaking, I put up a quick post on Thursdays asking all of you about what you’re doing this weekend. The idea is to crowd-source the information, allowing the readers to pass along good ideas to each other, rather than the traditional media model of me, as an arts writer, telling you what you should go to based on the most compelling press releases I got this week.

Usually, I try to stay out of it, since the idea is that you’re all supposed to be talking to each other, not listening to me.

But today, I thought I’d try something a little different: I’m going to share. I’m going to tell you about my weekend plans.

Thursday: Not part of the weekend formally, but a good warm-up. After I finish writing this story, I’m heading out to Bob’s Pretty Good Bookstore to help Bob sort through the massive collection of books (not kidding, it’s a crazy amount) he’s gotten in the last few months. My favorite thing is when we run across the really old stuff, some of it really rare to the point that you have to do actual real research (not just a Google query) to even find out what it is, much less if it’s worth anything.

Friday: After writing Listening Party, I’m running up to Asheville with my wife. She wants to shop, and I have freelance stuff to check in on. When we get back, I’ve got some short freelance articles to finish. Later that day, if I’ve still got it in me, I’m heading out to Burn Fest at Ground Zero.

Saturday: I’ll spend the morning reading up on the local blogs for the Blog Report, and adding new blogs to the SparkleCityBlogs.com site. Then, if I’m still feeling up to it (or if I bailed out on Friday), I’m headed to Burn Fest for a while. If not, I have a nice porch to sit on and several good books to read.

Sunday: I generally spend Sunday morning working on Video-O-Rama, then spend the afternoon cleaning up the house a little and shopping with my wife. After that, I might check out the Sunday Songwriters Showcase at Sonny’s Brick Oven Pizza, since I’ve only been once and they were doing a night of Bob Dylan covers, which I don’t think gave me a fair experience of the local singer/songwriter scene.

So that’s my weekend outline. Now, let’s hear your plans.

    Hey Steve,

I’m glad to hear about a new local bookstore! If I weren’t going to the free Hub-Bub movie tonight, I would offer to help with the books. Please keep an eye out for any older books relevant to local history!

    Wow. Bob’s sounds cool!

I hope I’m planting my strawberry topsy turvy this weekend (if my plants get here), probably go out to the farmers market Sat morn, I’m going to my first ‘queermittment’ celebration on Saturday eve for 2 friends who recently took the plunge in Mass, on Sunday will take the kids to the n’hood cookout for some kickball and fun with friends. And, oh yeah…I have to clean up for the cleaning lady. She comes next week. :)

  4. Going to the first night of “Sauce’s Secret Summer Cinema Series” at Hub-Bub tonight.

    Friday…not sure yet

Saturday is my sister’s birthday so we’ll be doing birthday stuff.

    Sunday…also not sure

  5. Daniel says:

Thanks for promoting Steve! Everyone should definitely come out to Burn Fest.

  6. Rob says:

There is the big Greenville Scottish Games festival this weekend. I’ve never been but heard the organizer on WORD the other day talking about it–it sounds like a lot going on with a Main St. parade and concerts Friday night on the Reedy River and a bunch of stuff going on Saturday up at Furman.
    They have a website: http://www.greenvillegames.org/index.php

  7. Craig Lee says:

Going the the Greenville Scottish Games as well.

  8. Sylvie says:

    lets see…

Friday. Buy a new DVD player, my old 8 year old one died a slow and painful death, then work.

    Saturday. Work.

Sunday. Church, a possible pool party, unless hubby is home. Thinking more along the line of utter laziness.

Somewhere I need to finish next week’s Miss Mom column.

Wow reading this makes me realize how boring my life can be. At least I am through the the writing frenzy I was subjected to for another project that should have been done by someone else MONTHS ago.

  9. I couldn’t hit Burn Fest tonight, largely because we got back from Asheville so late, but I’m definitely heading out tomorrow.
