If you see only one local YouTube video this week, make it this drama-drenched tale of nature from MyGombaba. It’s practically a duckling version of An American Tale, and it has a happy ending to boot!

I know next to nothing about the terminology of color guard competitions, and I can only guess a “winterguard” has some specific meaning. But it doesn’t really matter, because this is really cool.

When YouTube user franticmotionz takes you to “Long Time Ago In A Galaxy Called Spartanburg,” he’s not talking about the Star Wars flick. But while there’s no CGI, there are plenty of special effects. Seriously awesome ones at that.

Ever heard of local metal act Panacea? If not, this video interview by Landrum-based music promo outfit Underworld Metal will tell you everything you need to know. But don’t take anything they say too seriously. Also, NOT WORK SAFE for language.

Curious about the Spartanburg Creative Energy’s Artcycle program? Here’s a quick meeting of the minds between SCE’s Jennifer Evins, Partners for Active Living’s Jean Crow and the Hub-Bub’s Stephen Long, talking about creativity, art and bicycles.

And since we’ve been following Forest City-based vlogger Vicii since her first attempt to buy a prom dress, it’s only fitting we show her and some pals killing time before the big event. (Visit her page for footage of the event itself.) I greatly hope we get a nice rant about exactly how overblown the whole prom thing is in time for next week’s update.

As always, if you have a recently uploaded local video to suggest, please leave a link to it in the comments, with a brief description of what it is you’ve linked to.

  1. Chris says:

This was under the interests and hobbies section of the “Underworld Metal” YouTube channel: “Alot of people think that ‘unsigned band’ mostly means that it’s going to to be a bunch of indie rock fags conforming to fit in with this mtv-esque lifestyle, and I’m here to prove this wrong I’ve met many many unsigned bands and this is anything but faggy or mtv-esque these are true devoted hardcore partying, blow your ass off the stage rockers, each is very different from the other with their own uniqueness but are all here to accomplish 1 thing- to rock your fuckin ass off.”

I think that one part is enough for me to officially declare that guy a sphincter nugget.

  2. He lost me at “alot.”

One one hand, I do appreciate that the guy is making and effort to document these bands, which is an instinct I share. On the other hand, his description of his project — which I hadn’t read until you posted it — makes him seem like a person with a lot of growing up to do.

That, and the drooling over every word out of the band member’s mouths is a little saddening. The whole thing has a kind of “Tell me why you are so awesome” feel to it.

  3. Wes: You can link to any video site you’d like, and Vimeo is fine. I only scan YouTube for the updates because their search functionality is more reliable and the user community is huge, but any local, recently uploaded video is fair game.

    Cool video, by the way.
