artwalkThe worst of the winter cold is over. The economic news is so consistently bad that the stay-at-home panic has become more of a standard tough-times malaise. Nothing particularly good is on TV on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Can’t stay out later, though, as you might miss The Office.)

So what can you do that takes advantage of the brisk night air, doesn’t require the needless spending of money and will be just as entertaining as watching Jeopardy! and reruns of Seinfeld?

How about Art Walk Spartanburg? Now in it’s sixth month, the Art Walk is an evening of open galleries and related arts events downtown. While results have been mixed for the last few Art Walks — the mid-winter Walks were lightly attended at best — there’s plenty of potential for this to become a mainstay of downtown culture in Spartanburg.

The next Art Walk Spartanburg takes place tomorrow, Feb. 19, from 5 to 9 p.m. Participating galleries include the Spartanburg Art Museum, Hub-Bub’s Showroom, Carolina Gallery on Morgan Square, The Crescent Gallery and Myst Gallery. And better yet, it’s all free.

The Crescent Gallery will also hold an opening reception during the Art Walk for the work of Rich Nelson, which is on display through Tuesday, March 17. For more information about Art Walk Spartanburg or Crescent Gallery, call (864) 582-7122.
