Video-O-Rama: Karate Kids, Divas, The Beacon, Assistants to the Mayor, Marc Higgins Band

It’s been a great week for local video uploads, with tons of variety in both topic and presentation. What follows is just a sample of the kind of thing that’s becoming available online here in Spartanburg.
Thinking about pushing around some kids and stealing their milk money? Well, before you do that, tough guy, you might want to see if they’re enrolled in an after-school program at the YWCA. It could save you the embarrassment of getting the crap kicked out of you by a sixth grader, thus ruining your bully status.
One of the exciting things about the new Spartanburg Charter School is the amount of enthusiasm and community spirit the project has brought out from all corners of the city. Here’s the female-empowerment social group Innocent Divas Social Club doing their very first community service project at the school.
Here’s an interesting window in the operations at Spartanburg’s iconic Beacon Drive-In. It’s taken from a TV show, so you may have seen it before, but it’s still kinda neat.
I’m not even sure what’s going on here, but it’s tagged with “Spartanburg” and “Steve Shanafelt,” so I’m guessing that they wanted to land a shout-out on Video-O-Rama. Well, sometimes you just have to give the people what they want. Here’s “Tank You” by Assistants to the Mayor.
We’ve written some highly positive stuff about the Marc Higgins Band here on the Spark, but until recently there wasn’t any easy way of demonstrating just how good of a live band they really are. Thanks to the group’s recent performance at the HUB-BUB Showroom and John Watson Video being on hand to catch the gig, however, there’s now an excellent record of this group doing what they do best. Here’s “She Never Pretends.”
As always, if you know of a cool, recently uploaded local video that we missed, feel free to post a link to the video’s URL in the comments with a brief description of what we’re going to be looking at, and a Not Work Safe warning if it’s controversial enough to upset someone’s grandmother.
