Triflin' Friends

Triflin' Friends

Yesterday, I was IM’d by DeMar Richardson, the creator of a locally filmed internet sitcom called Triflin Friends. He asked what he needed to do to get some coverage of the project in the Spark, seemingly unaware that this is just the kind of thing we love to cover.

So what is Triflin’ Friends?

The show centers around a group of friends that work together at a local Community Outreach Center. They conduct seemingly normal lives but at times their dysfunctional ways get the best of them and typical situation can turn ugly in a heartbeat.

Sounds interesting enough, doesn’t it? Well, let’s check out the most recent episode, shall we? Here’s “One Bad Apple.” (Warning: Language makes this not work safe.)

The rest of the series can be found on Richardson’s YouTube page.

I’m not entirely sure what I think about the sitcom. It’s the only thing like this in the area, which is pretty cool. And it is a complete story, and the acting isn’t bad for what the actors are being asked to do. But I’m not wild about the jokes, and find the story in this particular episode to be a little on the bewildering side. I follow the premise, but it’s kind of all over the map when it comes to the gags. There’s not much in the way of set-up, which makes the whole thing seem kind of frenzied in a manner I’m not sure is intentional. And the laugh track is kinda weird. I don’t dislike it, I’m just not sure if it’s being intentionally post-modern or not.

But that’s just one take. Let’s hear yours.

  3. Triflin Friends could use a better camera and someone who knows their way around an editor.
